Another great thing about working on this project, besides working to bring attention to this issue, is meeting others that are working on it too. Even though I know Lynne only through
email now, we share the same passion - bringing attention to this
threat to birds.
If you live near Baltimore please go see her exhibit.
Lynne Parks explores loss of migratory songbirds in Baltimore Museum of Art exhibit.
"They capture such a wonderful sense of fragility," BMA director Doreen
Bolger said of Parks' work. "How delicate a balance we have in nature
and the world. How important it is to remember, as we populate cities
and build buildings, that animals and plants are all around us. It's a
real reminder of the care we have to take of the world we live in."
"The moral imperative of preventing even one unwanted and unintended death of these utilitarian and aesthetically pleasing creatures is, or should be, compelling enough.”
-Dr. Daniel Klem
Great to see bird and window collisions getting press:
"In addition, staff adopted a
preference against the use of mirrored windows for all future
development and would like to look into making this an ordinance in two
years."
Only two cities have adopted such guidelines - San Francisco and Oakland.
